Hazlewood Wins Slough Winter Round 1
The latest round of the Slough winter series took place this weekend after a couple of weather related cancellations had postponed its running.
The weather had been pretty kind all week, and was set for no rain throughout the day on a track that was in very good condition which was a surprise to many in attendance.
Jon got qualifying wrapped up in rounds 1 & 2 in which he took rounds wins on both occasions. Round 1 was a extremely close with Jon, Tony Truman and Kevin Brunsden all finishing within a second of each other. Round 2 was won by a few seconds after a mistake free run on the challenging track to secure overall TQ. Tony Truman would claim 2nd on the grid after he set the meetings fastest qualifying run in round 3 with a great drive. The Agama cars handling the lumps, bumps and jumps of the Slough track superbly giving the drivers the easiest possible time.
The main final started out as a 4 way battle with Jon and Tony battling for the lead with Kevin Brunsden and Karl Jackson fighting over 3rd a few seconds back. coming to the 1st round of stops Jon put a spurt in to ensure he retained track position over the 1 stopping Karl Jackson and this he achieved by a slender margin which set the race as both would have 1 stop to make. Unfortunately Tony had a disaster of an in lap and dropped out of contention. Jon and Karl would duke it out for the remainder of the final, Jon just being able to pull away slightly despite a failing clutch bearing causing him a few dramas over the jumps. Jon made no errors as he saw the remanding time out with Karl finishing 2nd and Kevin Brunsden 3rd to compete a BETA podium lock out.
We hope the weather states kind for the rest of the series so more drivers can come and enjoy this fantastic track.
