Podium at Pierrefeu GP
The annual Pierrefeu GP in the South of France was held recently, and NEMO Racings Darren Bloomfield was on hand to give the local French stars a good challenge.
This race has been a fixture on the race calendar for many years, and usually attracts a good entry with some of the best drivers in France and Europe in attendance. The track is used for testing by many of the top French drivers so local knowledge is a big advantage, certainly early in the event.
Darren was immediately comfortable with the high speed track, and was mixing it at the top of the time sheets almost right from the off and his Agama A215 was looking fast and secure. Darren felt that but for a few small errors overall TQ was possible. In rounds 1 and 3 a mistake cost the round TQ in fact, but on such a track with the closeness of the times, his small errors were punished, and ultimately he would end the qualification in 3rd place overall. Still a great effort for his first visit to the track, and going into the finals he was confident of being able to challenge for the victory. In particular his pace in the last round of qualifying was very impressive.
Sadly he never got the chance, as heavy and persistent rain overnight and in the morning, forced the organisers into cancelling the event and calling the results on the qualifying results.
We were still happy with the result, with the new A215 performing brilliantly on yet another different surface. This was backed up with Nico, who was trying the new car for the first time, qualifying directly into the semi finals and having a fantastic top 10 run in round 3.
So back to the UK, until the Indoor Padova race in the New Year…..
