Hazlewood Wins UK Truggy National R2
The second round of the BRCA Truggy and E-Buggy series took place at the Coventry track last weekend, and saw an excellent win in the Truggy class for a resurgent Jon Hazlewood.
The qualifying sessions saw Jon take the overall TQ for the meeting with some excellent runs, in which his BETA shod Agama A8T was the class of the field. The Agama Truggy was clearly the truck to have in the class as no fewer than 7 A8T's lined up on the grid for the main final.
The main final was an epic race between Jon and local ace Michael Lewis, the two of them battling throughout the final with some excellent clean racing. The Bullitt drivers pulling clear of the opposition despite their battle. Jon would eventually come out on top to take the victory by 5 seconds, backing up his 2nd place at round 1 behind team mate Darren Bloomfield.
In the E-buggy class, Richard Barton qualified an excellent 2nd overall. Richard was in much better health and spirits than at the Nitro national the previous week and it showed in his driving and general demeanour. Agama team-mate Tony Truman joined Richard in the A final, qualifying 5th despite being without his pitman/dad for the first time in a long time, Phil was called away on World Touring Car duty for Chevrolet leaving Tony to get the best from himself, and he did a good job.
Richard would go on to take 3rd overall in the main final after a great battle with Simon Willetts, Richard charged hard over the last few laps to try and take the place but lost out by just over a second.
The series now moves on to Wakefield where the team will look to continue their domination of the Truggy class….
